Anastasia Beverly Hills Modern Renaissance Review

Hi everyone! My name is Phillippa, I'm a makeup artist and beauty blogger over at www.phillippabeauty.com. I have the pleasure of writing a guest post for lovely Olivia's blog today. After seeing rave reviews for the Anastasia Beverly Hills Modern Renaissance palette all over the internet I had to check it out for myself. Surely it can't be that good? Well I've been experimenting with the palette since I bought it last week and here are my thoughts.

I'd give the packaging maybe a 6/10. I don't love cardboard packaging and although the velvet effect on the outside is lovely it will no doubt get filthy after a day or two in a makeup bag. It is however small and lightweight so perfect for travelling with. It contains a mirror too which is always appreciated for those of us that like to apply our makeup on the go. The Modern Renaissance palette also comes with a brush which is surprisingly great! It is double ended, one side works brilliantly for blending and the other is PERFECT for applying colour under the eyes. It's one of the best brushes I've ever used for applying shadows under the eye.

The modern renaissance palette is made up of 14 warm toned shadows, 4 of which are a shimmer finish and 10 matte. Before even opening the packaging I was already excited. Warm tones are my favourite for the eyes. They're beautiful for green and blue eyes and they complement most skin tones. It's so refreshing to see so many mattes in a palette too. I think the balance of 10 matte to 4 shimmer colours is perfect, as matte is what I use the most of but it's always nice to have the option of some shine on the mobile lid. Inside of the Anastasia Modern Renaissance palette there are 14 very beautiful and very wearable shades. There is the perfect combination of neutral and bright colours. The red shades are what excited me the most on first glance. It is quite difficult to come across raspberry and cranberry tones in a matte formula, so I felt I could justify yet another palette in my collection. I would give the shade range 9.9/10, the only thing I can complain about here is that there isn't a black shadow. Obviously most of us will already have a black in our collection so it's not a biggie, just one more thing to pack if you're travelling.

On swatching the shadows, I discovered how incredibly pigmented they are. This was my first experience with any of the eyeshadows from Anastasia and I was amazed at how creamy and luxurious they are. The one drawback of this is that the eyeshadows are very powdery and messy. Unfortunately, this is the price you have to pay for intensely pigmented matte eyeshadows. Luckily this powderiness does not cause a lot of fall out on application. The shadows actually apply beautifully. Minimal fallout and they blend like a dream. They might be the most blendable eyeshadows I've ever worked with. I would give the formula 9/10.

Overall I'd give the Anastasia Beverly Hills Modern Renaissance palette a 8.5/10. The only drawbacks being that the packaging isn't my favourite and the formula is quite messy. The shadows themselves are flawless. This is my current favourite palette in my collection and Lord knows I have a lot. It'll take something quite impressive to knock this palette off its pedestal. My favourite shade is love letter because I think it is such a unique colour. Here are some of the looks I've created with it.

Thank you so much for reading everyone!
