My experience on the Dianette Contraceptive Pill

Hello Everybody! I just want to start this post by saying I DO NOT use this pill for contraception, not to be prude but I don't need to because well......I'm not sleeping with any men and don't plan too! So if your looking at this pill for a contraceptive I am not your women and I advise you to speak to your doctor! Now with that out of the way I wanted to write this post for anyone who may be thinking of going on the Dianette Pill for various reasons, acne, period pains, just to stop periods in general etc.

I went on the pill years ago around the age of 15/16 for my acne as it knocked my confidence so much I would wear clothes that made me look like a nun. I was sad and felt ugly and don't get me started on period pains. I once fainted in my toilet they were so bad so it's safe to say as a girl I struggled through my teens but the minute I went on the pill my spots cleared within three months and I stopped having periods. You are advised on the pill to take it for 28 days (Depending what pill you are on) and having a week break to allow your body to have your period. For me not having periods was like a whole new experience I bloody loved it which meant I would go for months on end without having a period now this could be TMI but this is an honest post and I don't want to lie to anyone who may be thinking of going on the pill as you want honest opinions. Now the pill would make me super sad and I wouldn't say depressed but I did have quite some dark thoughts and at the time I got in a relationship the pill did effect it. We would argue because I would trigger at the smallest of things now I know this was all because of the pill because I came off it about a year ago and was the happiest girl I had ever met! Some people gain and loose weight on this pill but it doesn't effect my weight.....unfortunately! I wish it made me loose weight! HA! With all of this being said and my mood swings getting a lot worse I decided to come off of it at the age of 19 having been on it for so many years I thought my acne may have cleared up.

My mood instantly changed, I was happy and my spots where fine! They eventually came back with a vengeance and at this point being single and unhappy with how I looked wasn't a good combination so I went back to see my doctor a year on to ask to go back on it. Now you get the usual questions how much do you weigh, do you smoke, drink and if your having sex. Don't be shy answering these, they ask so many people daily it's nothing to worry about be honest and open with your doctor! Being back on the Dianette for 4 months now at a much older age (20 nearly 21) I think my views on the pill have changed drastically! I let my body regularly have periods now every two or three months depending on if I am going on holiday, events etc and my spots after the third month as usual have cleared up slowly, I still have the odd break out but my chest and back have cleared up dramatically. Now the really shit part of the pill to talk about, my mood even being a bit older now hasn't changed on the pill, I regularly cry myself to sleep for no reason and I find I get a lot more upset about things than I usually would and I do get into dark places occasionally but the best way I am avoiding these is seeing my family and friends as often as I can. My back has been in agony and I get a lot of headaches now so I would honestly say I hate the pill, but I won't be going off it any time soon. My spots make me too self conscious and I just don't want that. My bad moods are avoidable and paracetamol exists for the aches and pains so over all it's not AWFUL.

If you are thinking of going on the Dianette I really would have a conversation with your doctor about other methods if your worried you could get the same symptoms I get daily as there is so much out their now its incredible, unfortunately this is just the only thing (and I have tried A LOT over the years) that stops my acne! If you have any more questions or want to know more on my experience don't be afraid to email me, I wont be shy or prude I just want to help anyone who may be thinking of going on this pill for anything other than contraception remember!

Have you tried the Dianette pill? What was your experience like?

  1. I've been using Dianette for about three years now and I find it can give me really worrying spotting a couple of days before my period starts. Other than that, I don't think I've had a major problem with it 😊
